Interconnector - Life in the Middle
Sean Waring, Managing Director, Interconnector (UK) Ltd
This event occurred on: Thursday, 08 December 2011, 6 p.m.
Owned by 8 large international energy companies and financial institutions, IUK is the operator of the sub-sea high pressure natural gas pipeline connecting the UK and continental Europe; a high profile operation that has been at the centre of European gas market development since it began operation in 1998. Sean will speak about what is the interconnector, where did it come from, what has been its impact, and where does it go from here.
Sean Waring is Managing Director of Interconnector (UK) Limited. Sean has over 20 years experience in the gas industry in a range of technical, commercial and regulatory roles. Prior to becoming Managing Director in April 2008, Sean was responsible for the real time delivery of the interconnector transportation service and for management of the Company’s relations with industry regulators in the UK, Belgium and at EC level. After 3 years in the steel industry, Sean joined British Gas as a Process Engineer at an LNG storage facility before moving into a commercial position in 1996, where he managed the commercial operation of the Rough, Hornsea and LNG storage facilities, playing a significant development role as the UK gas storage business was liberalised and third party access was introduced. Sean is a Chemical Engineering graduate, a Chartered Engineer and an alumnus of INSEAD where he completed the Advanced Management Programme in 2007.
