Scremerston Field Trip
This event occurred on: Sunday, 11 September 2016, 1 p.m.
The Scottish Oil Club is sponsoring and organising a Sunday Geological Outing to Scremerston, led by Bob Gatliff and Dave Millward (BGS), and Phil Richards (Jurassic Oil Ltd). Phil is a current member of the SOC Board of Directors, and Bob is a past Director-- both are petroleum geologists. Dave is a world-leading expert on the Carboniferous geology of northern England and has run many field trips to Scremerston. Scremerston is a fascinating geological section, and a walk along the shore there will provide participants with an overview of the rocks and structures of the Carboniferous cyclotherms of northern England (developed in response to global sea-level and glacial changes) and will demonstrate the nature and formation of North Sea analogue reservoir rocks as well as provide the opportunity to observe and discuss outcrop scale tectonic structures such as anticlines, faults and relay ramps and how they impact on fluid flow in the sub-surface.
